Mageia 2 first beta version has been released

Originated in France and forked from Mandriva, The Mageia is now independent and community based project for developing a Linux based Operating System. Anne Nicolas said the released of first beta version of Mageia 2. The main new features of it are stable glibc 2.14.1, Linux Kernel 3.2.6, KDE 4.8.0, GNOME 3.3 [3.4 will be in final release], PCmanFM 0.0.10, Amarok 2.5, Cantata 0.3.0 music player etc.



It available on both 32-bit and 64-bit architecture. And comes with many desktop environment like GNOME, KDE, Xfce, LXDE, Wmaker, IceWM. Mageia is also available in server and LiveCD mode. This is non-profit organization which aims to provide best Linux operating system.

PCLinuxOS 2012-2 "Phoenix Xfce" has been released

PCLinuxOS is very user-friendly Linux operating system which gives you a out-of-box experience by giving most of driver in-built. PCLinuxOS is originally forked from Mandriva but now it is independent and very popular due to the wide range of the its desktop environment like GNOME, KDE, LXDE, Xfce, Openbox, Fluxbox, Enlightenment, IceWM.





PCLinuxOS 2012 "Phoenix" has been updated to version 2 in Xfce desktop environment on 20th Feb, 2012. Linux Kernel is 2.6.38.8 and Xfce version is 4.8.3, X.org 1.10.4, Mesa 7.11.2 and many other updates like 3D support for most Intel and N-VIDIA graphics cards and theme update also.

OpenSUSE 12.2 milestone 1 has been released

Milestone 1 of the OpenSUSE 12.2 is available for download with minor changes like in Mozilla Firefox and major changes is that the KDE 4.8 is used and also new artwork is there. Kim Leyendecker announced the milestone 1 release of OpenSUSE 12.2 version.



The main changes is reflected in 12.2 milestone 1 which were modified from OpenSUSE 12.1. There are some bugs is in milestone 1 so be patient because this version is for testing. We can say that this version is starting of development of OpenSUSE 12.2.

Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS has been released

Kate Stewart announced the availability of the fourth maintenance update of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS [long term support]. This version include the updates for desktop, servers and alternatives CDs and DVDs for i386 and amd64 both architecture. This version is more stable and more bugs were fixed in this version.




Here also Kubuntu 10.04.4 has also been released and available for download for i386 and amd64 architectures. The next LTS version is Ubuntu 12.04 which will be release in Apr, 2012. After that you can suggested to transfer on that.

Untangle Gateway 9.2 has been released : A multi-functional firewall

Dirk Morris announced the availability of Untangle Gateway 9.2 on 16th Feb, 2012. Untangle is one kind of firewall and gateway which is based on Debian with the features like span blocking, web filtering, anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, VPN, SSL VPN and much more.





In this version, the application for identifying and controlling network traffic has been added. And new facility for automatically exports the logs in 'CSV' format. A 'Full Refresh' has been added for forcing flush events to database and it immediately dumps all events so there is no delay. Improvement in installer for use entire disk. One more important feature is Youtube for school functionality is added.

The Chakra Project Linux 2012.02 has been released

Anke Boersma announced the availability of The Chakra Project Linux 2012.02 on 12th Feb, 2012. In this version Chakra Linux comes with K Desktop Environment [KDE] 4.8 and the codename is "Archimedes". It uses Linux Kernel 3.2.2 and one new theme is introduced in this version is Ronak. GRUB 2 is also included on Final release.

Pear OS 4.0 Beta 1 has been released

David Tavares announced the availability of Pear OS 4.0 beta 1 on 11th Feb, 2012. This beta version depends on Ubuntu 12.02 alpha 2. In beta version they have many software packages for testing. There are many new packages like GNOME 3.3, GTK+ 3.3.14, glibc, 2.15, Mozilla Firefox 11 beta 1, Mozilla Thunderbird 11 beta 1, LibreOffice 3.5 beta 2 and Mesa 8.0 rc2. This release announcement is called Comice OS 4.

The design of Pear OS is looks like MAC OS X because it contain a dock at the bottom of the screen. It gives you the media codecs in-built like out-of-box experience. It is originally based on Debian and Ubuntu and comes from France. The last version of it is Pear OS 3.0 "Panther".

Sabayon 8 has been released

Sabayon 8 has been released on 8th Feb, 2011 which originally based on Gentoo Linux operating system. Sabayon believes in outof box experience so they try to give most of basic packages in-built. Its tagline is "Open your source, Open your mind". Apart from that it has dashing look and available in many flavors like GNOME, KDE, Xfce, LXDE, Enlightenment, Fluxbox, Openbox.



In Sabayon 8, there are Linux Kernel 3.2, GNOME 3.2.2, KDE 4.7.4, Xfce 4.8, LibreOffice3.4.4 and many other Updated packages. Using Entropy Matter ebuild tracker, it became first Extreme-Rolling release with automated repository package version bumping.

Linux Mint 12 KDE has been released

Clement Lefebvre announced the availability of Linux Mint 12 KDE version. It uses KDE 4.7.4 version. And it contain features of Ubuntu 11.10 and Linux Kernel 3.0. A new feature is added named Hybrid ISO image which create LIve USB for installtion. Duck Duck Go is the by default search engine. Here is the look at its desktop.

PCLinuxOS 2012.2 has been released

Bill Reynolds announced the availabilty of PCLinuxOS 2012.2 with Linux Kernel 2.6.38.8 and desktop environment KDE 4.6.5. It is available in 32-bit and 64-bit architecture. PCLinuxOS is mainly forked from Mandriva and very easy to use operating system.



Addlocale package allow you to support 60 language on PCLinuxOS. PCLinuxOS uses Synaptix package manager for package management system which contain 13,500 packages. Minimum requirement of RAM is 512 MB and recommended is 1 GB.

Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" alpha 2 has been released

Canonical announced release of alpha 2 of Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" on 2nd feb, 2012. It contains Unity 5.0 interface which is more better than in Ubuntu 11.10. The alpha 2 version includes Linux Kernel 3.2.2, Upstart 1.4, LibreOffice 3.5 beta 2.



In this version they made a slight modification in Unity 5.0 interface like lenses and scrol-bar design and some others. Here HUD [head-up display] is not included nut you can add them using its testing PPA by entering following command in terminal or you can add this PPA to your USC [Ubuntu Software Center] [how to add PPA to your USC].

       sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

There are some minor changes has been made like Rhythmbox is became default media player. Ubuntu One Music Store plug-in is not included by default. Tomboy and gBrainy are not installed in-built. "Apport" is by default crash reporter.
